How can we help?
CameraMax puts a reference photo directly on your viewfinder, so you can line a shot up instead of guessing at it.
Getting started
- Open the app and allow camera access. The camera is the whole app — it opens straight to the viewfinder.
- Tap Reference in the bottom bar and pick any photo from your library.
- Crop it if you want, or apply it as it is.
- The photo appears over the live camera at 30% opacity. Move until the live scene lands on top of it, then tap the shutter.
Working with the overlay
- Opacity — drag the slider in the overlay cluster, from a faint guide to a near-solid ghost.
- Reposition — drag with one finger, pinch to scale, twist with two fingers to rotate.
- Reset — puts the reference back to its original fit.
- Hide — clears the view for a moment without losing the reference.
Minimal and Full processing
CameraMax captures in Minimal mode by default. Your photo is saved close to what the sensor and lens actually delivered — no face re-lighting, no aggressive smoothing, no look baked in by the app. If you prefer the standard iPhone look, switch to Full in Settings.
Permissions
CameraMax asks for three things, and only uses them for what you would expect:
- Camera — to show the live preview and take the picture.
- Photos — to let you pick a reference photo, and to save what you capture.
- Microphone — only to record audio with video.
If you declined one by accident, you can turn it back on in the iPhone Settings app under Privacy & Security, or in Settings → CameraMax.
Requirements
iPhone running iOS 18 or later. Lens options depend on your model — ultra wide, wide and telephoto appear when your iPhone has them.

It helps a lot if you include your iPhone model, your iOS version, and what you were doing when it went wrong.
